How We Make Money

1. Display advertising

Pennywise Finance displays adverts served by Google AdSense. These appear in fixed slots on most article and calculator pages. Google's systems select which advert shows to which visitor. We have no control over the advertisers themselves and we don't endorse any specific advert.

You can opt out of personalised advertising at any time via your Google Ad Settings, or by rejecting non-essential cookies on this site. Ad slot sizes and placement are designed not to disrupt reading.

2. Affiliate commissions

When you click certain product links and then sign up with that provider, Pennywise earns a commission from the provider. The affiliate disclosure page lists every brand we have a relationship with and the rules we apply.

3. Nothing else

We do not:

• Accept payment to feature, rank or recommend specific products
• Publish sponsored editorial (articles funded by a brand and disguised as editorial)
• Sell user data or calculator inputs (we never see them — see about our calculators)
• Sell a premium tier or paywall content
• Charge for newsletter access
• Take referral fees from individual financial advisers

Why we chose this model

A display-ad-plus-affiliate model lets us keep the entire site free for readers while preserving editorial independence. The alternatives we considered all introduce structural conflicts:

• Sponsored editorial would mean the highest-paying brand always wins, compromising the calculator-and-guide ecosystem that makes this site useful.
• A paywall would prevent the site from being shared and indexed, defeating its educational mission.
• Selling user data would betray the privacy commitment that lets us run calculators client-side without storing inputs.

Display ads and affiliate commissions are imperfect, but transparently disclosed, they're the cleanest way to fund this kind of work.
